I’m home!!

Standard

I’m home! The surgery went well, and me and the baby are safe. No more kidney or cancer! WHOO.  God is good!

The first few nights were a little rough, I was in a lot of pain. But, after that I started walking around and now I am in so so pain. Which is a lot better that a lot! 🙂 I am moving slowly, and have a beautiful stapled and bruised stomach. Which I know is a small price to pay.

I want to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, visits, meals and all of the other things I have recieved. It feels so great to have such wonderful family and friends. I can never express to you how much they mean to me!

Quick Update

Standard

We met with the urologist on Monday. He showed us the mass, which is a lot bigger than Jared and I thought. My kidney almost looks double in size. Anyway, he scheduled me to have surgery next Monday (3/16). He seems very confident that everything should go smoothly, the baby will be safe, and my cancer will be gone. All great news!

We met with the high risk OBGYN today. We first had an ultrasound and it was great! The baby is developing great and is VERY active. (Which is a Jared quality) And, it was very stubborn and wouldn’t let the technician measure his/her head. (This is a characteristic of mine…lol) She did finally measure it, but it took forever. Jared, my mom, and mother in law all got to see the baby. It was great! 🙂 After the ultrasound we talked to the doctor. He seemed very confident that the baby will be fine. Although, did have to tell us the risks, which you never like to hear.

I know that I haven’t personally thanked everyone that has sent me messages on facebook/myspace, or has sent me a card. But, know that I am so VERY THANKFUL, for all of them. You all will never know how much your prayers, and good thoughts mean to me!

The Rumors are True

Standard

Ok, so if you’ve heard…the rumors are true. I’M PREGNANT! We’ve known for quite a while, and told our family and friends. But, we didn’t want to make this announcment myspace/facebook worthy until now. This whole while I’ve been pregnant I have had some kidney problems. Here is the recap of how it went down…

January 1- Think there’s a slight possiblity I could be pregnant, but don’t think too much about it.

January 2- Take 3 pregnancy test, ALL POSITIVE! Yes, I had to take 3, I was in total disbelief.

January 3- Go to the ER. I have blood in my urine. Jared and I are thinking the worse at this point. They tell me that yes in fact I am still pregnant, that I was probably going to pass a kidney stone. 🙂 So, we go home and tell our parents!

January 6- I am having some weird pain in my lower right side. I call the dr. and she wants me to go get an ultrasound.  They check to make sure that my pregnancy is not ectopic.  I am 5 weeks pregnant now! They also, check my kidneys, and the spot where I am having pain. Well, they don’t find anything where I am having pain. (my stone may have been moving) They find that I still have one kidney stone, and find an abnormal spot on my kidney.

January 30- The appointments with the urologist and OBGYN. We meet with the urologist. He doesn’t give me the news I want to hear. He gives me the possiblities of what the spot could be. He also says that since I’m pregnant the only test they can do is another ultrasound. He said that that is not a very good way to look at the kidneys. But, schedules me an ultrasound at Barnes. After the urologist we go to the OBGYN. We get a lot better news here! I am 10 weeks pregnant, and everything is going good!  This day we go and tell all of our family and friends. Yes, we made our parents and siblings keep it a secret for that long. They said it was torture! 🙂

February 1- They wanted to do a follow up ultrasound, since I was not far along for the first one.  We go in the room, and we are both VERY excited. The technian is searching and searching, and can’t find the baby. He asked me if I had been spotting, the answer was no. I look at Jared like, more bad news. But, he finally finds our bean. He told me that I had a retroverted uterus, that means it is tilted weird. So, it made it very hard to find since I am not that far along. I won’t bore you with the details, but you can google it if you want. We got to see our baby, and see it’s little heart beating. Then I heard the best sound I have every heard in my life…OUR baby’s heartbeat. It was AMAZING!!

February 18- We go back to the OBGYN. Everything is going well. She sneaks us in for a quick little ultrasound. This one was so different. Last time our baby was a “blob.” Now, we could see it’s head and arms. 🙂 I am due September 6th.

March 4- Okay, so here is where the bad news comes in. I go to Barnes for an ultrasound, then the rush me up to get a MRI. Well, it turns out that my “spot” on my kidney is a mass. That mass is cancerous. Yes, this is hard to say…but, I have cancer. I am more than likely going to have to have my kidney removed before the baby is born. Now, for the good side of this.  Everyone we’ve talked to seems very positive. This isn’t the first time this has happened. I now have a urologist who was recommended by 3 doctors, and has dealt with this kind of situation before. I also now have a high risk OBGYN who has dealt with this before as well. My appointments are all this week. I will keep you updated, well I guess I will try to keep you updated. I don’t promise anything. 🙂

Next, I want to THANK everyone for their prayers! They mean so much to me and my family. Please just continue to keep Jared, me, and Baby Hartsock in your prayers. Love you all! God is good.
